When SMS Engineering was engaged to lead the replacement of aging HVAC systems, the project became more than a renewal exercise. It became an opportunity to explore how far practical electrification could be achieved in an existing building, without major infrastructure upgrades and without disrupting a complex, active learning environment.
For SMS Engineering, this was not a conventional hospital project. It was an exercise in designing healthcare infrastructure for a place where the rules are different: limited utilities, extreme climate, and long distances that separate communities from specialized care.
SMS was honoured to receive the Keystone Award for the Kinosew Sipi Nanatawiwekamik Health Centre of Excellence — the evening’s highest recognition, along with an Award of Excellence for the project.
