Located in the heart of downtown Winnipeg, the Thomas Hinds Tobacconist Sampling Lounge offers a refined environment for cigar enthusiasts. Designed by Soma Interiors, the space blends classic sophistication with modern comfort, creating a distinctive atmosphere for socializing and relaxation.

To bring this unique lounge to life, our team provided mechanical and electrical consulting services tailored to the project’s specific requirements. Given the rarity and regulation of indoor smoking spaces, designing an effective ventilation system was essential.

We implemented an innovative displacement ventilation strategy, introducing fresh air at low levels and extracting smoke-laden air from high points. This approach maintained comfortable airflow and air quality without disturbing the lounge’s ambiance, with ventilation grilles discreetly integrated into the custom millwork to complement the design.

Energy efficiency was central to the design. A high-efficiency energy recovery ventilator (ERV) reduced winter heating by 61% and summer cooling by 52%, minimizing operational costs and environmental impact. The efficient design also reduced the size of the supporting electrical infrastructure, delivering a seamless and sustainable solution.
