Unveiled in 2022, The Leaf at Canada’s Diversity Gardens is Canada’s first indoor horticulture attraction, covering 90,029 sq ft of innovative architectural design and advanced electrical engineering. Completed in two phases, the project faced challenges due to the absence of crawlspaces or basements, requiring meticulous planning of electrical infrastructure. Early conduit installation before foundation completion eliminated costly retrofits and avoided the need for additional underground conduits.

With a focus on energy efficiency and achieving LEED Silver certification, the design incorporated earth ducts, geothermal energy, and advanced lighting controls. Integrating diverse spaces, including the Main Electrical Room and complex AV network, demanded precise planning. In the Biomes, tailored electrical solutions were developed to manage extreme indoor conditions.

Custom stainless-steel bollards were engineered for fire safety, and lighting clusters were seamlessly integrated into ETFE structures, enhancing both functionality and aesthetics. Despite the project’s complexities, it was recognized with an award for its innovative design, setting a new benchmark in architectural and electrical engineering in North America.
