Our team led the mechanical and electrical design for this new two-storey school located in Pikangikum First Nation, in Northwestern Ontario, and home to approximately 2,700 residents. Classified under Zone 4 due to its remote status, this project addresses the community's educational and communal needs.

We developed an energy model to assess the heating and cooling needs of the proposed building, guiding the selection of appropriate HVAC and bulk fuel oil systems. Energy simulations were conducted to accurately forecast annual fuel usage, heating and cooling loads, and operational costs.

Despite budget constraints, the 100,000 sq ft educational centre features three 87% efficient cast-iron fuel-oil boilers and heat recovery ventilation units. Classrooms include comprehensive IT and AV setups, while science labs are equipped with a propane distribution system. The facility also includes public address and security systems, including CCTV cameras, with outdoor security enhanced by site lighting.
