With nearly 30 years engineering experience in complete system designs, Helmut guides SMS teams in our portfolio of health care and educational facilities projects. His recent experience includes the Gold LEED® Certified Sister Margaret Smith Centre in Thunder Bay and the redevelopment of both the Brandon Regional Health Centre Clinical Services and the Westman Regional Laboratory. Helmut has also been active on a variety of projects for the University of Manitoba and the Winnipeg School Division.
Peter has more than 20 years of experience designing HVAC systems for healthcare, commercial, industrial and energy conservation projects. In addition to his work for Atomic Energy Canada Limited, Manitoba Hydro and Polo Park Shopping Centre, he has extensive experience with healthcare projects including the Health Sciences Centre Critical Services Redevelopment Project and the Lake of the Woods District Hospital Infrastructure Renewal Projects. Peter has been involved in leadership roles with the Manitoba Chapter of ASHRAE and currently serves as the Chapter Governor.
Chris leads our electrical group on a wide variety of projects including industrial, education, transportation and healthcare. He is experienced in large multi-disciplinary and "mission critical" projects gained from his experience working in Europe, Southeast Asia and 10 years in Manitoba. Additionally, Chris has designed and overseen the site implementation of large and complex projects including several at the Winnipeg International Airport campus and power upgrade projects for MTS and The Great-West Life Assurance Company. Chris' healthcare experience includes several projects with St. Joseph's Care Group in Thunder Bay and the new Riverpoint Centre in Winnipeg. The Illuminating Engineering Society has recognized Chris' work with several lighting awards including the Winnipeg International Air Terminal Building and the University of Winnipeg Richardson College for the Environment & Science Complex.
Stirling is one of the first in Canada to achieve the LEED® Accredited Professional designation as well as the ASHRAE High Performance Building Design Professional designation. He is also a verifier of the BOMA BESt program in Manitoba. With nearly 20 years of industry experience, Stirling has applied his energy modelling expertise to a variety of geothermal projects such as Oscar Lathlin Collegiate on the Opaskwayak Cree Nation to the redevelopment of the Assiniboine Park Zoo. Additional project experience includes the Women's Correctional Facility in Headingley, Manitoba and the both the East and South District Police Stations in Winnipeg. Stirling also has been involved with various healthcare projects in both Manitoba and Ontario.

With 30 years of maintenance and construction experience, Wayne heads the SMS Engineering field services department. He has acted as Contract Administrator in both prime and sub-consultant roles on over 600 healthcare, industrial, manufacturing and redevelopment projects in his 15 years with SMS Engineering. Recent work includes the Canadian Museum for Human Rights, Investor's Field, the University of Manitoba's Pembina Hall and numerous capital projects at Health Sciences Centre including the new Women's Hospital, Energy Centre and Community Crisis Response Centre.
Knowledgeable in all aspects of mechanical building systems, Allan has more than 10 years of experience in health care, industrial and commercial projects. His diverse background includes the design of heating and cooling systems, large fire protection systems and building control systems. Allan has been involved in a range of projects that include the Seven Oaks General Hospital Access to Care Redevelopment, St. Boniface General Hospital Cath Lab Renovations, University of Manitoba Duff Roblin Sprinkler Upgrade, Steinbach Aquatic Centre Splash Park and the Monsanto II Addition.
For more than 10 years Chris has been involved in a wide range of mechanical consulting engineering projects with a focus on the commercial and educational sectors. Additionally, he is experienced in design for remote northern communities including a student residence at Nunavut Arctic College and community centres in Grise Fiord and Igloolik. Chris' project portfolio also includes commissioning projects for the MTS Main Exchange & Fort Rouge locations and the LEED® Silver Certified Winnipeg Humane Society building.
Jeff specializes in the mechanical design and management of projects in the commercial, educational and health care sector. With nearly 10 years of industry experience, Jeff has applied his experience in the engineering profession and his knowledge gained in his formal post secondary training achieved through his Certified Energy Manager (CEM) designation, LEED® AP designation and MBA at the Asper School of Business to successfully complete projects while exceeding client expectations. Past experience includes the Winnipeg International Air Terminal Building. Currently, he is leading the firm on the University of Manitoba Taché Hall project and various Health Sciences Centre renovations. He is also actively involved in the engineering community including his role as Co-Chair of the Association of Consulting Engineering Companies (ACEC) Institutional Committee.
With 10 years of industry experience, Gord has designed high and low-voltage switchgear and emergency power generator systems for central power house, commercial, data centre and hospital environments. During his five years in the consulting industry, he has acted as senior designer and project manager ranging from small renovations to multi-million dollar projects for clients such as the Health Sciences Centre, Manitoba Hydro and MTS Allstream. Additionally, Gord is knowledgeable in the design of lighting, lighting control, fire alarm, voice data and security systems.
Scott is experienced in a wide range of multi-disciplinary planning, design and construction projects including the Winnipeg International Air Terminal Building and Investors Group Field, home of the Winnipeg Blue Bombers. He also has managed various building upgrades, renovations and planning works for commercial property owners such as the Richardson Centre, Morguard Investments, Creswin Properties and The Great-West Life Assurance Company. Starting in the industry working for two multi-national construction companies, Scott has gained the practical knowledge necessary to apply efficient design practices to all projects. He is an active member of BOMA Manitoba, ACEC, ASHRAE and IFMA in addition to being a BOMA BESt verifier. In 2012, Scott was awarded the prestigious Member-in-Training Award by the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Manitoba.
